When Your Relationship Needs Support
I work with couples navigating recurring conflict, emotional distance, resentment, and trust concerns, including the impact of infidelity.
Some couples come to therapy because arguments have become increasingly painful. Others feel more like roommates and want to understand where their connection went. Therapy provides space to discuss difficult concerns, clarify each partner’s needs, and identify changes both people are willing to make.
We’ll explore your relationship history, current stressors, and the patterns that emerge when you feel hurt or disconnected. This includes noticing how defensiveness, criticism, or withdrawal affect your conversations.
I use Gottman-informed interventions alongside trauma-informed and emotion regulation strategies. Sessions may include practicing a softer start to difficult conversations, recognizing emotional flooding, making clear requests, and repairing after conflict.
I help both partners participate while keeping accountability for harmful behavior clear. Understanding someone’s reaction does not remove their responsibility for how they treat their partner.
Working Through Hurt & Rebuilding Trust
After betrayal or repeated disappointment, reassurance alone may have little impact. Repair requires consistent behavior, honest communication, and willingness to address the effects of what happened.
We’ll discuss what accountability looks like in your relationship and develop specific agreements that support rebuilding trust. The work also makes room for difficult emotions and the time it takes to assess whether meaningful change is occurring.
We’ll discuss what brought you to therapy, how each partner understands the concerns, and what you hope will change. We’ll also review your relationship history and how conflict affects your daily life.
Part of the assessment involves determining whether joint sessions are appropriate, including whether both partners can speak freely and participate safely. Together, we’ll establish initial goals and discuss the next steps.
